At the onset of newsense enterprises the collective embarked on a series of regional and national public sculpture closings. Sculptures were closed-off using yellow caution tape and wooden stakes with signs attached that state, “Sorry, this sculpture is temporarily closed. – newsense enterprises.”

Aside from the physical remnants of the closure, there is also an element of performance to the project. By dressing in blue worker uniforms and utilizing tools of the trade, newsense enterprises became self-appointed authority figures and relegated city workers. Also playing into the notion of authority were the posted signs. The ambiguous “newsense enterprises” offered official corporate identity (trademark), and the directive (though confounding) inserted a seemingly sanctioned decree. The conceptual nature of the project rested largely on the word “closed.” Sculptures were not closed based on a subjective analysis of the piece as a “valid” work of art. Nor were works with interactive qualities closed. The question viewers often posed – “How can you close something that you can still see?” – was the crux of the semiotic visual pun.

The series of guerilla actions later became manifest in a gallery exhibition focused on contemporary agitprop. In the spirit of decisive conclusions that are so often originate from an incontrovertible other known as "They" a title by the same name was given to the conceptual office. THEY consisted of a full-scale office, studio, and workshop where the business of closing sculptures took place. The installation served as a storage unit for materials of the trade (caution tape, neon cones, stakes, uniforms, tools), as well as a workshop and strategic planning area. Documentation (photographs, video, written correspondence, etc.) chronicled the happenings that coincided with the run of the show. Additionally portion of the space was devoted to a resource center, where past closings were presented via video and photographs.
